For attorney, J. Randall “Randy” Cox, the most important part of legal practice is listening carefully to clients. “I try to determine what the clients’ goals are, and then I ask questions—’Do you want to be really aggressive with this? What approach would you like to take? What do you want to see happen here?'”

Randy knows his way around both criminal and civil courtrooms, both federal and state, and has represented plaintiffs and defendants at trial. He has especially enjoyed working in one of the most difficult areas of law: criminal defense. He also dedicates a significant portion of his practice to administrative proceedings, including the defense of professional licenses, such as for nurses and attorneys, obtaining driving privileges after a suspension or revocation, unemployment benefit hearings, and liquor licenses.

Randy puts his clients’ goals first and then crafts legal solutions that help them reach the places they want to be. As a legal situation changes, his broad litigation experience, along with his analytical education from Knox College and SIU Law, enable him to quickly adapt to protect his clients’ interests. He’s also unafraid to counsel clients if their goals are unrealistic.

A frequent guest speaker for bar organizations statewide, Randy has shared his knowledge in areas as varied as the impact of new technology and media; DUI and traffic violations; mortgage foreclosure; and professional licenses. In addition, he’s been an active volunteer in his community, having given time and services to both the Lincoln Library Foundation and Springfield Air Rendezvous. He’s a licensed pilot and fisherman.

He considers the best part of his job getting good results for his clients, who then spread the word. “We deliver a premium product, but we’re reasonable. Clients will tell their friends, ‘Randy was good and he helped me, and it didn’t cost an arm and a leg…’ We really make a difference in people’s lives.”
